Source for Dialogue, Change and Innovation

Hansgrohe InnovationParc Shanghai

Hansgrohe is a world-renowned manufacturer of bathroom and kitchen fittings, and China is one of its most important markets. The company wants to engage in a targeted dialogue with its Chinese partners, retailers and architects, which is why Hansgrohe is opening its first innovation centre in Shanghai. Covering an area of 1500 m² and spread over three levels, we have created a vibrant place focusing on the themes of water and innovation. A showroom, office, research centre and event venue in one, InnovationParc’s possibilities are as fluid as water. Yet the space remains a touchpoint for users, engaging them in dialogue and making innovation visible.

Strong brand meets characterful building

To achieve all this, InnovationParc moved to the site of the Shanghai World Expo 2010. Today, the former industrial zone is a conglomerate of culture, lifestyle and technology, shaped by its industrial past and committed to moving forward into a new era. Its history is also reflected in the striking building, with its open façade grid and protruding chimney, which refuses to fit any conventional architectural mould. Its idiosyncratic personality is just the right place to open up the hybrid spaces of possibility offered by InnovationParc.

We have developed a Journey of Water on its three floors. The Water Forest on the ground floor presents the history, origin story and brands of Hansgrohe and discusses new ideas with its visitors: make the right product. Upstairs, in the Water Lab, the development department ensures that concepts become products that can be experienced in real life: make the product right. Finally, the Waterfall on the top floor symbolises how to bring successful products and ideas to market: create impact!

Brand experience as a conversation starter

The ground floor is accessed from two opposite entrances that lead into the Water Forest. The centrepiece is a long workbench that brings Hansgrohe’s innovation process to life through a variety of informative, interactive and sensory displays. All exhibition areas and elements are designed to be reinfused with new content: from analogue theme stages, digital displays and audiovisual impressions to material samples, products and prototypes.

The multi-functional brand experience becomes a constantly evolving conversation starter. In the communication area, comfortable seating and a coffee bar invite you to chat about what you have experienced.

Next door, we tell the story of this traditional company from the German Black Forest. Full-height glass columns, which can be used interactively in digital or analogue form, create a forest of changing content, offering references and excerpts rather than a complete linear story. Free from the stereotypes of Black Forest gateau and kitsch, visitors can access the company’s history and mindset.

Working together – or showering?

The Water Lab on the second floor shows how innovations are turned into products at Hansgrohe. Labs, test areas and an office landscape for different working typologies are the focus here. The motto of the space is that innovation is created through collaboration and requires a work environment that flexibly adapts to the needs of situations, tasks and people.

But where do you get new ideas? In the shower, of course! With Shower World, we create a spa-like setting in which visitors can try out products and experience water from different shower configurations on their own skin. The installation of the products is always accessible, but not in the foreground.

The Water Fall is located on the third floor. Curving like a bottleneck, the space expands dramatically 18 metres into the air. Below is an easily adaptable, agile stage for a variety of uses. Functioning as a workspace, a cafeteria, a hybrid conference room or an event location, the space can be used intensively depending on the occasion or time of day. The verticality of the space, supported by a vertical media installation, combines work on future topics with the value landscape of a strong brand: ideas and innovations flow through the building like a waterfall.

Naturally sustainable

Hansgrohe’s commitment to sustainability and working in harmony with people and the environment is reflected in the use of resource-saving materials that ensure a healthy indoor climate. Green spaces and a biodynamic lighting concept promote user well-being. At the same time, we create a strong, memorable framework for the brand without prescribing specific uses. For Hansgrohe, the building becomes a constantly evolving space of possibilities that inspires new discoveries and provokes exciting conversations. A great prerequisite for a long and sustainable life of the site.

Hansgrohe InnovationParc Shanghai combines past and future, functionality and emotion. It is neither a classic showroom nor a conventional office space. Instead, it is a dynamic meeting place that inspires people, opens up new perspectives and drives innovation. In the tug-of-war between design and function, it is a place that encourages dialogue and transformation.
