Community at the Centre. Online and Offline

Wardow Headquarter

Wardow is one of the leading online retailers for handbags, rucksacks, luggage and accessories. In 2024, the company moved into new three-storey headquarters on Potsdam’s Jungfernsee campus. Wardow joins good neighbours such as SAP – and childcare and public transport links are also provided. We are working with the company during this growth phase to create a work environment with a design based on Wardow’s core values: being highly digital and community-driven with a strong focus on wellbeing and an inspiring and healthy work atmosphere. Both online and offline. During working hours and thereafter.

Prelude to a wide product range

The reception area plays a key role for Wardow. This is where the company regularly welcomes representatives from manufacturers, who are here to present their new products. A presentation island with height-adjustable shelves offers the opportunity to arrange products and entire collections as in a classic retail environment. This transforms the lobby into a showroom – an efficient setting for suppliers and Wardow alike to make decisions about future product ranges. When no supplier is visiting, the online retailer can present its bestselling products or the latest bag and luggage trends here. This also creates offline points of contact with the product portfolio for employees. And of course, this area with its adjoining meeting rooms is also ideal for internal presentations and team events.

The right offer for every work mode

The headquarters extend over three floors. A spiral staircase with wooden treads and terrazzo stone-look tiles creates a high-quality, natural environment and a visible connection between the floors. The open-plan floor plan positively invites a wide range of workspace typologies on each floor. A suitable situation exists for every mode of work: classic workstations – height-adjustable, of course, and equipped with ergonomic desk chairs – are complemented by retreat rooms and office-for-a-day offerings.

The open space work areas are demarcated and slightly separated by carpets and acoustic filter elements. The colour palette throughout the building remains reduced and clear, but is implemented in a diverse way. We use furniture, curtains and textiles to add colourful accents, creating a varied environment that is versatile but unobtrusive in design. The result is just the right mix of openness and concentration.

The office also comprises different situations for dialogue and collaboration. These range from meeting rooms behind closed doors to couch landscapes and agile standing meeting rooms with modular whiteboards for collaborative brainstorming. There are also power stations on all floors, which can be used for contemplative moments over a cup of coffee, as well as for spontaneous exchanges.

A community hub at the heart of the corporate culture

On the top floor, we created a community hub that is all about coming together – during working hours and thereafter. We use half the floor to create spaces for eating together, relaxing and after-work events. Firstly, there is a spacious kitchen. From small tables along the outside façade with a view of the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage landscape to large tables and a bar, various opportunities exist for planned or spontaneous socialising. A large terrace invites you to after-work barbecues or a contemplative end to the working day, but it is also the ideal place for a coffee break or to hold a meeting with a view.

The second important component of the corporate culture is sports and gaming as opportunities to relax and switch off – and to do so as a team. A large multifunctional room offers space for yoga, table tennis or table football. Here employees have the chance to take a break from sitting at a desk. The gaming area invites employees to meet up for short multiplayer sessions during their break or to spend an evening with colleagues in front of the PlayStation. And for good reason: Not only is gaming an integral part of many people’s leisure time, diving into virtual worlds together challenges and promotes team spirit and communication skills.

All in all, time spent on sporting activities or in front of the console strengthens team cohesion. The community hub is a clear highlight of the headquarters and a centrepiece of its corporate culture. Here it becomes clear that the Wardow headquarters are not just a place of work, but a place where employees enjoy spending time together. During working hours and thereafter.
