Drubba Moments

Titisee-Neustadt is a peaceful small town in the upper reaches of the Black Forest, which has become a favourite destination for tourists from Asia. With its idyllic lakeside position in the romantic Black Forest, many appreciate how it offers a polar opposite to their urban, industrialised lifestyle. And of course shopping is now as important a part of any German holiday as visiting Cologne Cathedral or Munich’s Hofbräuhaus beerhall.

Destination: Drubba Village

Drubba, a family business that began in the 1950s with a boat rental and kiosk on Lake Titisee, recognized this trend early on and specialized in the sale of cuckoo clocks and high-quality brand watches, among other things. Today, "Drubba Village" is a household name for many Asian guests and a popular tourist destination.

The sales rooms for watches have moved into a new building directly on the lake. Our task was to provide a concentrated shopping experience to suit the tight schedules of many Asian guests, while at the same time uniting the various brand areas under an overarching spatial theme.

Attractively presented

The various brands are arranged around a central core. To enable the tenants to create an attractive presentation in line with their corporate architecture, the design of the tenant areas is only bound to a few specifications. Wall niches define the framework and ensure a uniform rhythm. Large-format porcelain stoneware tiles turn the floor into a visual pool of calm. The hexagonal shape also cleverly breaks up the polygonal floor plan. And the subtle color scheme allows the space in the outer ring to recede as much as possible, leaving the stage entirely to the brands. The lighting is integrated into two ceiling trenches. The challenge here was to achieve an illumination that allows the products in the display case and when they are removed to appear in identical light.

References to the Black Forest

The center of the room has its very own character, where a café bar and the watchmaker's service can be found, but mechanical masterpieces and high-quality wall clocks are also presented and sold. The eye-catcher is the ceiling made of 4362 spruce rods, which extends in waves over the entire core. It forms the emotional center of the room and refers to the nearby Black Forest. The walls surrounding the core are marked by a shiny copper-colored polygonal finishing strip. Natural colors also dominate in this area. The tops of the presentation tables are painted in dark metal tones, while the counter is clad in dark faux leather. The materials and colors reference the nature and naturalness of the Black Forest. With discreet elegance and well-dosed spectacle, the center of the room becomes a visual attraction without stealing the show from the surrounding brand areas.
