Wechselraum BDA

The Wechselraum is a compact gallery and meeting point for Stuttgart’s architectural scene. As a part of BDA Baden-Württemberg the room is open for discussions, lectures and extraordinary exhibitions in the context of architecture. Because of the heterogeneity of the expected contents the design had to be clear, robust and brand recognisable. The Aim was to position the Wechselraum as a platform for architecture. An Institution with has got eyes-wide open for the architectural scene in Germany and Europe and the needs both of newcomers and already established protagonists in the field of architecture. The graphic appearance was modelled on the significant and clear actual space.

+more-less

The abstract floor plan forms an robust grid for designing all communication means – the plan forms an oversized signet. This grid functions as a type of container for designing all media related to exhibitions and events. The colour-system is dominated by white and black and shades of grey. The haptic of the papers and the print finishing plays with rough and smooth, mat and glossy surfaces which derive from the used materials and colours in the Wechselraum interior design. The Typography is clear and determined. The Logo-Sign is set in the same manner as the headlines. The corporate typeface of BDA Bund Deutscher Architekten, Frutiger Next, is used as text typeface. The exhibition concept is designed to be used as a horizontal wallpaper band. This approach is used consequently by 8-sided jackets for the image brochure and the exhibition catalogues and by horizontal arrangement of the information on the website. Especially on the website the content can be explored by scrolling and jumping horizontally, like a visitor looks around in an exhibition in the Wechselraum.
