The idea behind this novel living concept is to furnish business nomads with a temporary home base – wherever they are in the world. Each individual apartment has been designed in alignment with the requirements of the target group: a wish to feel part of the whole, while being able to retreat into independence at any time. Classic offers such as discreet and anonymous hotels do not meet this wish, nor does the concept of a permanent second home. This market niche is how the idea of serviced living originated: offering flexibility and the service level of a hotel, a feeling of being at home, yet with a connection to the city and the community feel of a shared apartment. Here you can have your laundry washed, order food or rent bicycles, but also cook with other guests in the communal kitchen, celebrate an occasion in the lobby or work in the open-plan area: the entire ground floor is designed to put the co into community.
A place to weigh anchor
Since always doing the same thing does not bring you different results, the team at IFG tweaked the layout of the conventional hotel room in creating the new micro apartments. In a Joyn apartment, the living and dining area is where the bed might normally be found. In this way, the generous window fronts remain free for reading, lounging or simply gazing out onto the world.
Smart equipment transforms compact spaces into agile experience zones: Depending on how the occupant chooses to swivel the lamp or draw the curtains, one and the same area changes from living room into office into lounge, can be a one-room or two-room apartment, with the option of bright or ambient lighting. And in the midst of all this diversity, wooden surfaces and textiles create a tactile anchor to the virtual world – and an increasingly volatile reality.
