It is rare to find smart furniture presented in a smart manner. So we designed our highlights showcase for the Rehau exhibition stand at interzum to break new ground: Future Apartment follows the radical approach of distilling Kitchen, Living (room) and Bathing (bathroom) into three sculptural objects. These were kept deliberately abstract to highlight the diverse technical possibilities that Rehau has to offer in a striking yet entertaining way. Dispensing with standard kitchen units and apartment settings, the highlights showcase gives memorable insights into modern surface technologies capable of generating intelligent added value. Our innovative customer journey resulted in a long-range impact, above and beyond the Rehau exhibition stand.

Future technologies presented playfully
Rehau stands for innovation – and we wanted this to be seen: Future Apartment invites you to take a fresh look at the future of smart furniture. Exhibition visitors discovered a whole variety of touch points, all of which generate fascinating images in the mind and provide a playful starting point for deeper discussion. The special display was designed as a journey through a small gallery. The interplay between human and surface always takes centre stage, as the highlights showcase creates many interactive situations. Kitchen, Living and Bathing – all appear as solitaires. Each of the three communicates with visitors in its own way. Moreover, their clearly stylised nature dissolves all apartment clichés.

Kitchen: work surface and welcome desk in one
The kitchen island reduces the kitchen of the future down to two functions: an interactive work surface and storage capacity. At the same time, it serves as a welcome desk in the context of the stand. Its more surprising features include motorised shutter cabinets that are child’s play to operate through sensor technology. The kitchen also contains an innovative lamp and freely positionable charging trays that demonstrate how mobile phones can be wirelessly charged. A smart shelf in the minibar and smart label on the front edge of the vertical shelf unit operate using sensors that indicate when supplies are running low.

Living room and bathroom: representative spaces
Living presents itself as a private retreat: a safe space and representative place in one. An upholstered lounge seat contained within a shelf-like structure invites you to get comfy. Glass fibre illumination integrated in the upholstery piping ensures homogenous light effects throughout the central seating area. The lighting elements are mounted along the top edges of the piping. The interior space of the Living section of the showcase is also the perfect environment for perfectly styled selfies.

The bathroom is conjured up by a collage of monolithic corpora: bathroom, mirror and washbasin are transformed into large illuminated bodies thanks to integrated lighting and relief milled ornamentation. If required, the mirror can be transformed into a light source with only the central area remaining a mirror. An illuminated halo surrounds the mirror image – a tongue-in-cheek nod to Hollywood glamour. The borders of the bathroom objects also light up in the dark, adding a touch of lighting magic to the bathroom and ensuring you don’t have to switch on the bright overhead light on nocturnal trips to the bathroom. A pretty smart idea, we’d say.
