Based in Stuttgart-Möhringen, AEB is a leading provider of IT solutions in the field of international logistics and global trade. Translating the corporate key values of openness and transparency into a distinct design approach and selection of materials, we developed a guidance system for the newly built headquarters.

Following a continuous dialogue with the architects of Riehle+Assoziierte and the owners and developers AEB, we devised the idea of a sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing guidance system, seamlessly integrated into the premium architecture.

Known as a highly practical and legible font, Avenir was selected and carefully refined to complement the architectural character of the building. Pairing a specially designed, outline-faced version with the traditional Avenir font, we visually incorporated openness and transparency into the entire building and developed a system of guidance and direction for a variety of applications.

From the underground parking entrance upon arrival, through the spacious atrium, on all storeys and to the creative and seminar areas – the guidance system provides AEB employees and visitors with discreet information, orientation and advice. Large-size applications on glass and fair-faced concrete walls label the creative spaces, greet arrivals in the underground parking with a friendly “Willkommen” and say goodbye with a thoughtful “Gute Fahrt”.

Inspired by the outline-typeface, we developed a set of pictograms which relates to AEB beyond formal affiliation. The Ladies’ pictogram, for instance, spares the usually depicted skirt and thus illustrates AEB’s open-minded attitude. Depending on the specific event and its requirements, flexibly installed signs for special parking in the underground car park allow for adjustments and customisation.

As is the case with the design for the open and versatile office spaces, the guidance system offers substantial options for future extensions and upgrades.

With an outline-faced version of the Avenir font, we visually incorporate the company’s openness and transparency into the guidance system.
