Stuttgart-based Phoenix Design is one of the world’s leading studios for product and interface design. We were commissioned to design new premises for the studio in Munich. Logic, morals and magic are the three pillars of the company’s philosophy, which we effectively implemented in the spatial design. As always, the design paid full tribute to team and work processes, which due to a high-level client base, are frequently subject to strict secrecy requirements.
We translated the statute of logic into a clear, open floorplan with strict, clear-cut geometry. This is contrasted by soft forms such as the gently curving wall and velvety green flooring in the corridor. The interplay of these opposites forms a starting point for the magic for which the company stands.

A corridor bisecting the space divides the elongated, slightly angled floorplan into two distinct areas.
A sharply contoured, cuboid reception counter greets the visitor. The wall behind it extends upwards into the ceiling in a smooth curve, while a mirrored side wall expands the space. A shimmering green carpet helps create a surprisingly poetic ambience. Metallic, faintly iridescent Parsol mirrored lamellae emphasise the linear zone of movement, which forms a backbone to the rooms. Wall-mounted monitors encourage the spatial pull of this zone. Ever-changing visual connections and the overlapping of fittings and surfaces lead to continually changing yet always harmonious spatial impressions. Upholstered fabric coverings, wallpaper and curtains ensure excellent acoustic properties throughout.
The project room also does justice to the guiding principle of flexible work. It can be opened with a few simple hand movements to become one with the expanded kitchen area, the communicative heart of the office. The long wall of the conference room is designed to support creative thinking and an outside-the-lines approach thanks to a completely magnetic and writeable surface.
The open space concept enables integration of very diverse ways of working: fixed and non-territorial work stations, team offices, workshop rooms and areas of greater privacy support concentrated work and informal communication.
